Children visit new school as construction begins at St Nicholas CE Primary

Construction of the new St Nicholas CE Primary School, Wallingford, is now underway and developers welcomed children from the current St Nicholas CE Infants to see their new school being built.

Children and staff visited on 14 May, and site managers talked through the construction, answered children’s questions and presented them with commemorative shovels for the school.

St Nicholas CE Infants’ School and nursery is expected to relocate to the new site in September 2026. It will begin to expand its age range to become St Nicholas CE Primary School, eventually offering education to children aged 3-11.

Headteacher Amy King said:

It’s fantastic for the children to have the opportunity to visit the site and to see our new school being built. We are really looking forward to further visits to the site to see how the build progresses. The plan for the new school has been in development for a long time and so it’s really exciting to see it start to take shape and to have had so much involvement in planning what it will offer the children.’

The new site and extension of age range for St Nicholas’ is part of a joint plan with Fir Tree Junior School. Fir Tree also expects to begin extending its age range in September 2026 to become a primary school. It will remain on its current site, with new and upgraded Early Years facilities to welcome Reception and Nursery children for the first time.
