New building proposed for Brize Norton Primary School

Brize Norton Primary School may move to a brand-new home following a proposal by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust (ODST).
Demographic information suggests young families are increasingly likely to live in the Brize Meadow area, which has a £7.5 million new school building in development. Given the strengths of the current Brize Norton school and the strong education it offers, OCC and ODST propose to invest in the current provision and relocate it into the brand-new premises.
Why might Brize Norton school relocate?
- Schools are here to serve the community, and an increasing number of families now live in Brize Meadow, particularly in the younger age groups. A new building and location is our opportunity to retain the current community of staff and children, and the ethos and values of the school, while growing and evolving to meet changing needs.
- Modern facilities and space will mean potential for a bigger hall, sports facilities, performances, the school's own playground equipment, and much-needed SEND provision that the current building cannot grow to accommodate.
- A sustainably-built new home for the school means less spending on maintenance of an old building, and more money directly to education.
- Section 106 funding for the new school building is ring-fenced by the housing developers exclusively for education provision at Brize Meadow. This is an opportunity to gain this investment for Brize Norton Primary, extending the high-quality education already provided and securing the school’s future.
Key information
- The move is likely to happen during the 2027-28 academic year, at the earliest. All pupils on roll at the time will automatically remain on roll.
- The PAN (Published Admissions Number) – the number of pupils admitted in Reception – would increase from 20 to 30, beginning with Reception admissions in 2028. Current classes are likely to remain as they are (20 per year group, in mixed-year classes of 30.)
- The school leaders and staff would lead the day-to-day aspects of a transition to a new building, ensuring the high-quality education and family feel of the school is retained.
Have your say
OCC and ODST are very committed to listening to parent and carer views, and those of the local community. A formal consultation period runs from 12 May to 16 June.
